I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of the 8th of September, 250th day of the year and 34th Wednesday of 2021.
1) Today in 1962 Dhola Confrontation took place.
Chinese troops surrounded the Dhola post near Tibet which India had setup in 1962.
Event unfolded thereof led to the Indo-China war of 1962. The Dhola post lay about 6km north of Macmohan line. The Aksai Chin area has been under the control of the Chinese ever since.
2) Today in 1952 The Universal Copyright Convention was adopted in Geneva.
It was signed by 35 countries including India. It is one of the two principal international conventions protecting copyright, the other is Berne Convention. It was developed by UNESCO.
3) Today in 1993 the Mandal Commission was brought into effect with the exclusion of Creamy layer.
The Mandal Commission recommended 27% reservation for the backward classes. It was established in India in 1979 by the Janata Party govt under PM Morarji Desai with a mandate to identify the socially or educationally backward classes of India. It was headed by BP Mandal.
