I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 17th of August, 228th day of the year and 31st Tuesday of 2021.
1) Today in 1947 Borderline that seperated India and Pakistan, Radcliffe Line was revealed.
It spread through The Rann of Kutch in Gujarat to the International border in Jammu and Kashmir. Radcliffe divided India into three halves: West Pakistan, East Pakistan and India. The partition of the country saw million deaths and 12 million people were displaced.
2) Today in 1909 Revolutionary Madan Lal was hanged by the British in London.
He was hanger for assassination of Curzon Wyllie, an official of the British government.
He claimed the killing as a patriotic act and in revenge for inhumane killings of Indians by the British government in India. He was executed at Pentonville Prison.
3) Today in 1945 Indonesia declared independence from the Netherlands.
Sukarno declared Indonesia’s independence from Netherlands.After Dutch transferee sovereignty four years later, he served as country’s first president.
