1) Today in 1905 Major Dhyan Chand was born in Allahabad.
His birth anniversary is celebrated as National Sports Day in India. Chand’s Autobiography titled “Goal” was published in 1952. The Wizard of hockey was matched by none in the game of Hockey. India have won 3 gold medals in olympics under his captaincy.
2) Today in 1947 Dr BR Ambedkar was appointed the President of the Constituent Assembly.
He was an Indian Jurist, economist, politician and social reformer. Upon India’s independence on 15th August 1947, The new Congress led government invited Ambedkar to serve as Nation’s first law minister. He was appointed by the Assembly to write India’s new constitution.
3) Today in 1931 Gandhi arrived in London for the second Round Table Conference.
Gandhi sailed for England in the SS RAJPUTANA to attend the Second Round Table conference. He went as the sole representative of INC. Gandhi pleaded for an honourable and equal partnership between Britain and India held not by force but by the silken cord of love.
