I welcome you all to “Today in History by Hranker.com”. Here, we will discuss some of the major events in the history of 16th of September, 258th day of the year and 35th Thursday of 2021.
1) Today in 1931 Freedom Fighters shot dead by British police inside Hijli Detention Camp, West Bengal.
Hijli Detention Camp was founded in 1930 by the British Administration to detain freedom fighters. Unarmed Detainees in Hijli detention camp, Santosh Kumar Mitra and Tarakeswar Sengupta were shot dead by British Police for agitating against the jail. The camp was set up because the large number of freedom fighters could not be accommodated in Ordinary jails.
2) Today in 1916 Classical musician and Bharat Ratna awardee MS Subbulakshmi was born.
He was an Indian Carnatic singer from Madurai, Tamil Nadu. She was the first musician ever to be awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s Highest Civilian honour.
3) Today in 1931 Eminent Theoretical Physicist and Padma Vibhushan awardee EC George Sudarshan was born.
He was an Indian American Theoretical physicist and a professor at the University of Texas, Sudarshan has been credited with numerous contributions to the field of theoretical physics including Glauber-Sudarshan P Presentation, V-A Theory, quantum zeno effect etc.
